DOUG KAUFMANN, NUTRITIONAL CONSULTANT, author and lecturer with more than 30 years experience in diversified healthcare, has long been a proponent of "owning your own health." To this end, he developed the first laboratory in the United States in 1979, which correlated a broad range of medical symptoms to food and fungi. "If," as the Journal of the American Medical Association has reported "80% of traditional medicine lacks a scientific basis" Kaufmann believes that it is time for every individual to learn how to restore and maintain health through diet and safe natural remedies.

The Phoenix, Arizona native attended Santa Monica College in Los Angeles and vigilantly maintains his self-medical education. "We have so thoroughly dissected the human body for the benefit of medical specialists and have kept the general public so frightened with disease diagnoses, that I really didn't want to plead ignorance should disease ever catch me!" His career in medicine began upon graduating from "A" school as a U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman in 1969. In 1970, following 2 years of medical training at the U.S. Navy hospital in San Diego, California, Doug received orders to go to Vietnam. His tour included attachment to The Seventh Marine Division and The First Medical Battalion in DaNang, Vietnam, where he earned such combat decorations as the Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry and the Vietnam Service Medal with one bronze star.

Following his honorable discharge, Mr. Kauffmann became certified by the American Society of Allergy Technicians (ASAT) and worked to that end with G. Howard Gottschalk, M.D. in his Los Angeles allergy clinic. Dr. Gottschalk sent Doug to the Washington University School of Medicine in 1974 for a course in Food Allergy. This course would alter his career, in that he learned of the many physical and mental symptoms that were directly linked to diet. He would later discover that food allergy surfaced when intestinal leakage occurred and allergy tests only determined the end result of this process. Intestinal fungal overgrowth after taking antibiotics could cause intestinal leakage. These findings fueled Doug's interest in food and fungal-related research, most of which is still unknown to physicians and medical researchers.

Mr. Kaufmann began broadcasting his discoveries on radio in 1992 on a small radio station in Dallas, Texas. Today his show is a live, call-in, one-hour daily show, The Doug Kaufmann Health Show. This show can be heard in Southern California on KIEV-AM-870 Mon. thru Fri. 5:00 - 6:00 a.m. & KKLA-FM 99.5 Mon. thru Thurs. 12:00 midnight - 1:00 a.m. Additionally, Kaufmann hosts Your Health with Doug Kaufmann, a daily television show on FamilyNet, an Odyssey Channel affiliate that airs on 126 TV stations nationally. He hosts 90-second vignettes on health and nutrition on 2,000 U.S. radio stations and armed forces radio.

The Kaufmann Nutrition Center in Rockwall, Texas was the first nutritional center dedicated solely to food and fungal related disorders. Here, Doug and his staff offer nutritional information for individuals wishing to optimize their health. In 1984, his book, The Food Sensitivity Diet expounded on the role that diet plays in the disease process. His current book will educate both the general public and physicians on the causal role that fungus has on cancer. Mr. Kaufmann is listed in Who's Who in the Congressional Library as an honored professional.
